Foreign: subtitlesOne more depressingly sad story describing the schizophrenic (split personality) nature of America. We send help to established dictatorships to quell "communist inspired" insurrections in countries such as Vietnam, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Chile . . . and then after the fighting is over, we accept as political refugees the people who fought for the side we didn't support, the "communists", the bad guys.
This extremely well done film is set in the early 1980's (Reagan neoconservative administration). It's about a family caught in the middle between the San Salvadorian Army that is hijacking boys as young as 12 for army duty, and guerrillas fighting for "freedom". Unfortunately, many times these "freedom " fighters return the country to a new form of oppression.
This movie, which can almost be considered a documentary, is based on the true story about one of the boys who lived through those times. It did not get an A rating because it was painfully predicable. Everyone knows how these stories end . The uneducated, frightened, innocent, naive and poor get screwed.
