TV Series Review: DEXTER (2006 - ) A

Inline image 1
Very interesting TV series.  A throwback to Charles Bronson's Death Wish films, where a vigilante good guy goes after bad guys.  Only Dexter has a much more unusual personality.  He is emotionless.  Cannot feel others pain or suffering or happiness.  Unfortunately, in the episodes I have seen so far, this aspect of his personality (which I assume relates to his early childhood experiences) is not explained. Interesting to note that this type of personality is not all that unusual.  Just think about the massive number of Germans and Japanese that committed atrocities during WW II without blinking an eye. 40 to 50 million Russians killed.  6 million Jews.

Storyline (from IMBd site) : Meet Dexter Morgan. By day he's a blood spatter pattern expert for the Miami Metro police department. But by night - he takes on an entirely different persona: serial killer. But Dexter isn't your average serial killer as he only kills people who fit a very prolific and precise "moral code" taught to him by his late father Harry (he didn't kill Harry, honest), and developed very thoroughly throughout each kill.

THE FALL (2013 - ) First Series A+

When the Belfast police are stalled in their investigation of a spate of murders, Detective Superintendent Stella Gibson is drafted to investigate. Very good acting and story telling for people who are interested in a TV Series about a serial killer of women.  Surely not for everyone.

Five episodes that I thought would end with the abduction of the killer.  Will not tell you how it ended.  Season 2 not available yet on Netflix

From another typical reviewer

Excellent character development

Well written, excellent cinematography, keeps you hooked and on the edge of your seat. Characters are complex, and not predictable, also developed as the plot develops. Certainly there are some details that are not believable, mistakes that you don't think a serial killer would make, but they are easily overcome because of the writing and character development, and th eeriness of the storyline. If you want a comparison, think of Dexter or The Killing. Not much humor in the daily on goings of the characters, Very dark and serious, don't know if that's more common in Irish series. But you certainly want to keep watching it.

THE FOLLOWING (2013 - ) C

Revision to TV Series Review: THE FOLLOWING (2013 - ) (From A to C)

After wading through about 7 or 8 episodes, I discovered that the plot of the series had major flaws. The bad guy, behind bars, was magically capable of undermining any attempt the FBI made to stop the mayhem he was orchestrating . . . and the scenes had many too many flashbacks.

(From A to C) rating is being kind.

If you are into a sadistic murder series (similar to, but not as pleasant as DEXTER), this is for you. Fast moving and gory.  Unusual plot includes a college professor that is the incarnation of evil.  Only saw 3 episodes of first season.

From Other Reviews:
Kevin Bacon stars in this roller coaster-like thriller as former FBI agent Ryan Hardy, who's called out of retirement to help catch escaped serial killer Joe Carroll, whom he helped put away years earlier in acase that, quite literally, almost killed him. Carroll, a charismatic former English professor obsessed with Edgar Allan Poe, hasn't forgotten his old nemesis, either: the orchestrated mayhem he unleashes, which is carried out by acolytes he cultivated through the Internet and prison visitations, is designed to torment Hardy, who had an affair with Carroll's ex-wife Claire after his arrest.  .
