TV Series Review: THE GAME OF THRONES (2011 - ) Fourth Season: A Depraved C

Inline image 1
One of the most amazing series on TV. No real comprehensible plot or story. Need subtitles to understand.  The highest ratings . . .ever  . . . this season.

It does offer, however, what the American audience loves. Brutality, sadism, gore, graphic killing, maiming, barbarism, brutishness, fierceness, barbarity, gratuitous sex/soft porn, grossness, savagery, bloodthirstiness, ruthlessness, unfeelingness, fiendishness, got the picture?

FROM WIKIPEDIA:

Game of Thrones is an American fantasy drama television series created for HBO by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss. It is an adaptation of A Song of Ice and Fire, George R. R. Martin's series of fantasy novels, the first of which is titled A Game of Thrones. Filmed in a Belfast studio and on location elsewhere in Northern Ireland, Malta, Scotland, Croatia, Iceland and Morocco, it premiered on HBO in the United States on April 17, 2011. Two days after the fourth season premiered in April 2014, HBO renewed Game of Thrones for a fifth and sixth season.[4]
The series, set on the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos at the end of a decade-long summer, interweaves several plot lines. The first follows the members of several noble houses in a civil war for theIron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms; the second covers the rising threat of the impending winter and the mythical creatures of the North; the third chronicles the attempts of the exiled last scion of the realm's deposed dynasty to reclaim the throne. Through its morally ambiguous characters, the series explores the issues of social hierarchy, religion, loyalty, corruption, civil war, crime, and punishment. It is the most recent big-budget work to have contributed to the popularity of the fantasy genre in mainstream media.[5]
Game of Thrones has obtained an exceptionally broad and active international fan base. It received widespread acclaim by critics, although its use of nudity and violence has caused controversy. The series has won numerous awards and nominations, including a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Drama Series in all three seasons, a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Television Series – Drama, a Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation in Long Form, and a Peabody Award. Among the ensemble cast, Peter Dinklage won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series and the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor – Series, Miniseries or Television Film for his role as Tyrion Lannister.

HBO Series: GAME OF THRONES (2011 -13) B

I don't completely understand why I watch this HBO series.  The plot cannot be understood. People come and go, they kill and maim each other and speak in a language that requires subtitles.

It's not the sexually explicit scenes, because that stuff can be seen by anyone dialing up xhamster.com.  Maybe it's the same reason I watch WWII movies.  Raw violence!  Or I just like the non-conventional weird characters that are part of the scenes.  Or maybe it's like science fiction.  But I have to admit one thing, the scenery and costumes of medieval times are sensational.

This is the writeup from IMDdPro.  See if you can understand it.

"Seven noble families fight for control of the mythical land of Westeros. Political and sexual intrigue is pervasive. Robert Baratheon, King of Westeros, asks his old friend Eddard, Lord Stark, to serve as Hand of the King, or highest official. Secretly warned that the previous Hand was assassinated, Eddard accepts in order to investigate further. Meanwhile the Queen's family, the Lannisters, may be hatching a plot to take power. Across the sea, the last members of the previous and deposed ruling family, the Targaryens, are also scheming to regain the throne. The friction between the houses Stark, Lannister and Baratheon, and with the remaining great houses Greyjoy, Tully, Arryn, and Tyrell, leads to full-scale war. All while a very ancient evil awakens in the farthest north. Amidst the war and political confusion, a neglected military order of misfits, the Night's Watch, is all that stands between the realms of men and icy horrors beyond."
