ELLING (2001) B/A/C

Foreign; Norwegian, subtitles

A unique movie that was nominated for a Academy Award for foreign films in 2001. Deals with a subject that most producers and directors wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole. The relationship between mentally disadvantaged people and the rest of society. It turned out to be much better than a documentary about this difficult to understand world.

Here we see the personalities of people who live in situations much different than the average middle class person will ever experience in their lifetimes. The C rating was because some people would consider this a tedious Norwegian movie which somehow was nominated for an Oscar.

From Netflix:
Per Christian Ellefsen and Sven Nordin play the shy, retiring Elling and the imposing Kjell in this Norwegian movie about two mentally challenged friends who battle adversity and find their place in the sun. When the two become roommates, they attempt to create a life for themselves outside the confining, but protective, walls of the hospital. Petter Naess directs this Academy Award nominee for Best Foreign Language Film.
