This movie provided very little insight into the personalities of the players. We drop into a world of a sad kid, a uncaring father, and a needy hairdresser that is willing to do almost anything for a very disturbed kid she is caring for on weekends. The game between these players . . . and some other characters that appear in the film . . . is then played out in a predicable manner. The viewer can hardly feel for any of the people. Very less than DEEPLY MOVING. And moreover, the logic of the kids actions regarding his relationship with a bad companion and his father is flawed.
From Rotten Tomatoes: Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at Cannes Film Festival and a Golden Globe nominee for Best Foreign Language Film. This deeply moving new film by the Dardenne brothers delves into the emotional life of troubled 11-year-old Cyril (Thomas Doret). When his father (Jérémie Renier) abandons him, Cyril obsessively searches for his bicycle - placing his last bit of hope in this symbol of their relationship. Almost by accident, he becomes the ward of a kind hairdresser (Cécile de France), who seems surprised to find herself so determined to help him. With his wild, unpredictable behavior and his disastrous search for father figures, Cyril risks losing her - though she refuses to give up without a fight.
