Story about a frozen marriage between partners of 31 years. Apparently the couple have few interests, nothing in common, are not intimate, don't talk to each other and relationship between them is totally nonexistent. (Some consider this film a comedy because of the nervous laughter of the audience when certain aspects of sex were mentioned.) THE PROBLEMS OF THIS COUPLE ARE NO JOKE!! Tommy Lee Jones is almost frozen beyond hope. Totally miscast as a person who can rapidly change. At the wife's insistence they go for a very short period of counseling and ultimately we have a happy ending. Counselling was particularly weak.
In the real world these types of very serious marital problems usually start with joint therapy, which then leads to individual therapy and usually take years to resolve. Can't compare to the HBO "In Treatment" programs that over the years have shown how real people respond to psycothearpy. The production and popularity of the movie at least (I hope) caused a lot of viewers to gain insight into there own marriages and relationships.
