LE HAVRE (2011) D

French; subtitles

A creepy, almost surrealist produced movie about a young African refugee that is rescued in the french port city of Le Havre by a man who works as a shoeshiner. Directed "stiffly" with very limited movements and facial expressions by the actors. Does not allow the viewer to fully understand the motivations of the characters . . . that are never well developed anyway.

Got great ratings from Rotton Tomatoes probably because it was directed by Aki Kaurismäki, the Finnish filmmaker.
