READ MY LIPS (2001) C

French; Subtitles

A French mystery movie that never seems to get off the ground. Main female character feelings and motivations are not well defined at the outset, which allows the movie to wander into a weak film. There is also an element of forced suspense that continues throughout the film until we reach a somewhat predicable ending. Something was missing from this movie but I just cant put my finger on it. Needs a rewrite and I don't plan to do it.

From Netflix: Still waters run deep -- and so do silent ones, as this French thriller proves. Under appreciated secretary Carla (Emmanuelle Devos), who's deaf, is tired of being treated like a serf at work. Her solution? Enlist the aid of good-looking thief Paul (Vincent Cassel). He may be clueless, but he's her ticket to justice and revenge. (WW: she never wanted justice and revenge). As they plot out their scheme, each learns more from the other than they ever expected. Again Rotten Tomatoes lets us down. 97% of the critics liked it.
