THE SEARCHERS (1956) D-

Inline image 1I had heard that this movie was the "CLASSIC WESTERN". Quote from Rotten Tomatoes "If John Ford is the greatest Western director, The Searchers is arguably his greatest film ".

I was concerned because John Wayne was the lead.  After about 10 minutes of watching this 1956 vintage film Sandy and I gave up.   To start with,  Wayne comes back home after the civil war to east Texas.  Unfortunately, they must have had shots left over from the Navajo Reservation in Monument Valley.  Very beautiful  . . . but not east Texas. Production was worse than poor.  Forced and BAD acting, all women in starched and ironed dresses, music didn't in anyway fit the scenes.  Just bad 1956 stuff.
