Foreign Movie Review: THE COLOR OF PARADISE (2000) D

Subtitles necessary
Available from NETFLIX

This VERY BAD and sad movie got great ratings from Rotten Tomatoes.  It is a an Iranian production with excellent cinematography and acting . . . but the story is just a painful episode in the life of a family.  Maybe it was produced as a morality tale for the Iranians.  But that's just my guess.

It's about the story of  a blind boy and his experiences (see below) and could have ended on a positive note with his growth as a productive adult.  But all we get is pain,  tension and despair . . . and good pictures of an idealized Iran.

From the Movie Promotion Blurb:
Awash in the sights and sounds of an Iranian summer, this moving family drama stars Mohsen Ramezani as Mohammed, an 8-year-old blind boy whose poor widower father (Hossein Mahjoub) nearly abandons him at a school for blind children. Welcomed home by his grandmother and sisters, the bright boy is eager to immerse himself in the world of the seeing -- but his father fears Mohammed may hinder his attempts to remarry into a prosperous family.
