Movie Review: Whiplash (2014) B-

This movie can be considered a horror story. It's about a young man who wants to excel in the field of music, reached one of top educational institutions in music and runs into a monster of a teacher who ultimately gets thrown out of the school because he is beyond the craziest Marine Drill Instructor ever invented by Hollywood.  I just don't get the need for type of screenplay unless the producer of the film was reacting to some horror story that occurred in his or her life.

If you want to see brutality . . . this is for you.

From the promotional material:
This scrip is dominated my a Andrew Neyman is an ambitious young jazz drummer, single-minded in his pursuit to rise to the top of his elite east coast music conservatory. Plagued by the failed writing career of his father, Andrew hungers day and night to become one of the greats. Terence Fletcher, an instructor equally known for his teaching talents as for his terrifying methods, leads the top jazz ensemble in the school. Fletcher discovers Andrew and transfers the aspiring drummer into his band, forever changing the young man's life. Andrew's passion to achieve perfection quickly spirals into obsession, as his ruthless teacher continues to push him to the brink of both his ability-and his sanity.
