Foreign Movie Review: A BORROWED IDENTITY (2015) B

Israeli, Hebrew with subtitles

Once again, an Israeli filmmaker attempts to show the prejudice ingrained in the Israeli society.  In this movie, a young Israeli of Arab origin is treated as an "outsider" in the same way many blacks are treated by "white" people in the United States.

The film  shows an academically gifted Palestinian Israeli young man, given the chance to go to a prestigious Jewish boarding school in Jerusalem. As he desperately tries to fit in with his Jewish schoolmates . . . and within Israeli society, he develops a friendship with another outsider,  a boy (Jonathan) suffering from muscular dystrophy, and gradually becomes part of the home Jonathan shares with his mother.

After falling in love with a Jewish girl, he discovers that he will have to sacrifice his identity as an Arab in order to be accepted.
