The Big Short approached a serious, VERY complicated subject with total lack of clarity. I KNOW a bit about buying and selling in the stock market and I ALSO KNOW the best of us are still not familiar with the term "swap". Maybe some of us know what selling "short" means. But those words are thrown around in a haphazard manner in this film and the audience is expected to follow the complex math of dealing with the world of securities bundled together.
It attempts to deliver a funny indictment of its real-life villains in the bargain.
In the movie some Wall Street insiders notice the housing market's downward trend long before anyone else and contrive to profit from it. Unfortunately, the movie is so badly edited that you can't tell the good guys from the bad guys.
I the end, the screen writer finally tells the consequence of the financial meltdown of 2008 . . . in words . . . on the screen.
