Excellent movie if you are interested in a film that puts a face on people who have the guts to fight against (what appears to be) insurmountable odds. Shows one step in civilized man advance in human rights. The movie is about William Wilberforce efforts, (a member of Parliament in the late 1700's) and his fight to end slavery and the slave trade in the British Empire. Wilberforce was elected to the House of Commons at 21 and took on the issue of slavery, successfully assembling a coalition that went up against the most powerful men of the time. It's a template for all democratic advances.
The movie also gives insight into the real give-and-take in democratic debate. Also includes English upper class life at the time and mature relationships between members of the same and opposite sexes.
The very stirring musical piece, Amazing Grace, may have been written at the time , and may relate to debate about slavery that was going on. Have to do more homework here.
