Foreign: Subtitles(Partially from Yahoo): Romania, during the final days of Communism.
Otilia and Gabita are students; they share a room in a college
residence hall in Bucharest. Gabita is pregnant. The girls arrange to
meet a certain Mr. Bebe in a cheap hotel. He will perform Gabita's
illegal abortion.
(From Warren) To say the least . . . this was not a fun movie. If you
either can't or do not want to deal with the subject of abortion DO
NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES see this film. This movie will keep you
on the edge of your seat. You will not be able separate yourself from
the experience of the women (students) in this film. The movie, which
was obviously done "on the cheap ", shows what super good direction
and acting can accomplish. As a side note, the depiction of Romania
before the fall of communism was magnificent.
Certain scenes in this film may become classics. One showing the lack
of foresight of the young women and another showing a group of people
discussing trivial subjects while one of the women is dealing with the
events unfolding.
I gave it an A++ for it's acting and direction. The B rating was
because the screenplay had a glaring hole in it. If you see the film,
you will understand what I'm talking about.
DO NOT MISS THIS UNIQUE FILM IF YOU ARE INTO CINEMA ARTS.
