Rachel Getting Married (2008) F

This movie should have been outlawed by the US signing up to the terms of the Geneva Convention. If this was shown to the people imprisoned in Guantanamo we would have discovered that water boarding was not necessary to extract information from the bad guys. The pain inflicted on those watching this movie twice, would have been enough for the prisoners to tell all they knew.

In this movie we witness the coming together of a family that has undergone a terrible misfortune. One of the 3 siblings . . the one who is a sick druggie . . . was allowed to baby sit for a younger sibling and killed the child in a car accident. No one in the family has dealt with anything. They all "love" each other and hate each other at the same time, except for the father who is a absolute moron, a total wimp and is in denial.

This painful setup is overlaid with a interracial wedding taken right out of the Sunday Style Section of the NY Times. Backyard tent in a large 1920's home in the Connecticut countryside, eclectic bands that play horrendous and grating music, the latest in clothing, etc., etc.

It is interesting to note that the TV program "In Treatment" deals with mental problems and dysfunctional family situations in a mature and very watchable manner . . . as opposed to this monstrosity of a movie.
