Movie Review: CAPTAIN PHILLIPS (2013) AA

From extensive advertising and promotion, most everyone is aware that the movie CAPTAIN PHILLIPS is about the 2009 hijacking of the U.S. container ship Maersk Alabama by a crew of Somali pirates . . . and the abduction of the captain, played by Tom Hanks.  To say the least . . . this is a super- sensational action-adventure film.

Paul Greengrass, who also directed the nail biting movies, The Bourne Ultimatum and United 93 created this new movie that combines unimaginably complex  cinematography and film editing that (during the action scenes in the latter part of the movie will keep you spellbound).  Just imagine a maniacal group of somewhat drugged, primitive and frightened Somali pirates fighting with each other in a small boat and at the same time attempting to negotiate and extort money from the United States Navy . . . backed up by Seals.

As a footnote the acting by Hanks and the Somali's is sure to be nominated for all sorts of awards.
