Deepwater Horizon recaptures the events that occurred on that floating oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico on April 20, 2010. Although most of us know many of the details of the event, the movie provides us with the unimaginable action,
noise, peril, muck and the massive fireball that occurred
on that date. From the standpoint of special effects the rating is AAA.
As far as the screenplay is concerned . . . it's a B.
The subtext of the screen play (which sometimes is hard to understand considering the complexity of the technology of drilling for oil on a movable and floating oil rig . . . plus the Louisiana "slang" spoken by the actors), is the that because of negligence and greed of the corporations involved, 11 people were killed and a vast marine ecosystem was destroyed.
