Foreign, subtitles
This film is based on true story of a German soldier's long and difficult 8,000 mile journey home after being sentenced to a Russian prison camp in Siberia (near Alaska). Excellent depiction of his travels through the tundra, forests, rivers and the multi-ethnic areas of eastern Russia.
On the negative side, his escape and pursuit by the Russian police appeared contrived and unrealistic. The screenwriter may have been influenced by the story of Jean Valjean.
