As a disclaimer . . I usually don't see this type of young chick-flick movie, however, a friend, who will remain nameless (his initials are JS and he sells investment plans) recommended this one. This is the first time I saw Cameron Diaz is a movie. She and I previously became acquainted with each other at a supermarket checkout celebrity magazine rack, where she shared the headlines Brittany, Brad Pitt, and Paris Hilton. She has a very nice body, especially the cleavage and tush, which the director made sure was imprinted in your head. This movie fit her perfectly.
She played the part of a young Jewish adult who becomes transformed in three months from an seductive, dyslectic, illiterate, promiscuous, irresponsible, 27 year old women-child into a real "mensch" (who loves poetry) after visiting her grandmother who lives in a condo development in Deerfield Beach Florida, 33456 . . . where everyone speaks as if they left the Ocean Parkway Jewish center in 1973, but carried their Brooklyn accent with them. Very plausible.
The movie had all the pop psychology that you can fit into two hours of pain. Two sisters coming together into a loving relationship after being miles apart, an overbearing mother that helps drives her daughter to suicide. A guilty ridden husband, a self centered stepmother, who "kevells" over her daughter who is a decorator, one sister finding a real relationship because she can communicate feeling to her future husband (feelings were very important in this movie). Also included was a low keyed, non-ostentatious wedding. (Doesn't anyone like Leonard's of Great Neck any more). Lots of eligible male MD's and Lawyers. The real nice ones were the guys that didn't want a one night stand.
This so-called movie looked more like a pilot for a sitcom-drama scheduled for ABC on Thursday at 9PM. Too much sex for 8PM and too much stereotypical stupidity for 10PM
