An excellent movie for adults. Adaptation of W. Somerset Maugham book.
Includes a very special depiction of rural China in the late twenties.
Many faceted story. Relationship growth, women's lib, value of fulfilling work, dealing with contagious epidemics, Church issues, etc., etc.
Most likely was a least four hours long before it was edited down to 2 hours. Probably the reason the depths of the characters were not fully developed.
People actually spoke english. It was a pleasure listening.
