Foreign; Subtitles;Powerful Polish dark film about the Holocaust. It seems that the grandchildren of the armed forces (on all sides of the conflict) can finally . . . 50 years after the event . . . can openly talk about the horrors that men inflicted on other men.
This movie deals with a polish family who hides and supports ( in the sewers of a Polish city) a few Jews that escaped being sent to the camps. These non-Jewish people, who have a moral standards above and beyond what I can imagine, have been labeled by the Israelis as the RIGHTEOUS AMONG NATIONS.
From Wikipedia: Since 1963, Yad Vashem, the Holocaust memorial in Israel, has recognized 22,216 people as Righteous among the Nations (as of January 1, 2008). The commission, called The Holocaust Martyrs' and Heroes' Remembrance Authority in Israel, organized by Yad Vashem and headed by an Israeli Supreme Court justice, has been charged with the duty of awarding people who rescued Jews the honorary title of Righteous among the Nations.
