Terrific suspense movie . . . with comic relief . . . about the CIA extracting six Americans from the Canadian Embassy in Tehran during the Iranian hostage crisis. Shows that good movie makers can create suspense and excitement even when the audience knows the final outcome. Sure to be nominated for many Academy Awards. Directed and acted by Ben Affleck who has proven himself to be one of the top players in Hollywood.
The introduction to the movie shows some of our ugly historical relationship with Iran since the end of WWII. Includes removing of the the social democrat Mohammad Mosaddegh, who was the Prime Minister of Iran when he was overthrown in 1953 in a coup d'état orchestrated by the British MI-6 and the United States CIA, and the installation of the corrupt Shah.
The Shah really believed he was a king and didn't understand that he was just was a puppet of the west. Unfortunately, the puppeteers (US and Britain) let the strings on the puppet loosen to the degree that caused popular unrest and the takeover of the country by the mullahs. Part of the history of American "exceptionalism" which includes slavery and our treatment of Native Americans
