CATCH - 22 (1970) C

Catch - 22 is a surrealistic movie about a flyer in the US Air Force during WW II who tries his best to get himself grounded because of his fear of being killed or maimed. The goal of the book and movie was to clearly explain the insanity of war, Unfortunately, all the cast characters were stereotypes of real people and their actions were way beyond anything you would witness in real life. This form of movie making, in my view, does no allow the viewer to create an alternate reality within a film which then turns out to be exaggerated nonsense. The real pain and fear of the soldier or airman in war never came across. Surrealism may be successful in a paintings hung on a wall for decorative purposes but does not work in movies.
