Foreign Movie Review: GETT: THE TRIAL OF VIVIANE AMSALEM (2015) AA to D

This movie . . . makes a very important political statement (that's why I gave it an AA).  It is primarily designed for Israeli audiences and will make your blood boil. It will be especially painful for women. The utter stupidity of the role of Orthodox Jewish women is exposed in this film.  Essentially, they are in a prison controlled by their husbands . . . and they accept it.  The film shows that this aspect of Orthodox Jewishness has not advanced since the middle ages . . . or even before.  I also rated it  D because you will not be a happy camper after seeing this movie.

Taken From Rotten Tomatoes:
In the film, an Israeli woman  seeking to finalize her divorce from her cruel and manipulative husband finds herself effectively put on trial by her country's religiously-based marriage laws.  (Israel sounds more like China).
In Israel there is neither civil marriage nor civil divorce; only rabbis can legalize a marriage or its dissolution, which is only possible with the husband's full consent. (That was the political deal made to gain votes in the Parliament years ago). In the movie the women has been applying for a divorce for three years but her husband  will not agree. His cold intransigence, the women's determination to fight for her freedom, and the ambiguous role of the judges shape a procedure in which tragedy goes hand-in-hand with absurdity.
