This movie is about the horrible and ugly war between the Catholics and Protestants in Northern Island in the 1970's . British soldiers were called into reduce the violence, and this movie deals with one on the soldiers who gets caught behind "enemy lines".
Needed subtitles. So if you chose to see it, get a DVD or see it on Netflix streaming.
Could have been a good emotional piece but the different elements in the fighting forces (good IRA, bad IRA, informers for Brits, etc., etc.) created a very confusing story. Even more confusing was the soldiers' relationship with a young boy in England. Seemed like big chunks were edited from this film
The redeeming feature of this movie . . . that (by the way) got a great rating by Rotten Tomatoes was the excellent cinematography.
From Rotten Tomatoes: '71 takes place over a single night in the life of a young British soldier (Jack O'Connell) accidentally abandoned by his unit following a riot on the streets of Belfast in 1971. Unable to tell friend from foe, and increasingly wary of his own comrades, he must survive the night alone and find his way to safety through a disorientating, alien and deadly landscape.disorientating, alien and deadly landscape.
