BBC TV Series Review: HINTERLAND (2013) B+ (4 Episodes)

Subtitles a must.

Interesting and different British detective series.  Very dark.  No smiling or laughing in this series allowed.  Characters and cinematography of Wales is great but some of the details of the plots and investigations are  difficult to follow.  Have the impression my lack of following the logic of the investigations may be because the episodes may have been edited to fit into a particular time slot. Sandy gives it an A because she liked the people.

Promotional write up says, "Forsaking London for the rustic landscapes of Wales, a police detective with a troubled soul finds himself in a place with secrets as dark as his own."

It appears that there may have been a series that was produced before this one where this very sad and emotionally troubled detective was in England, got in trouble and had to leave his wife and kids.
(It seems that 95% of all cops on these TV series are divorced.  Does it go with the job?)

A second series of Hinterland already commissioned,

Other Review:
What a series! Please tell us there's going to be another. Loved the familiar background. Characters were very likable. There's got to be more to tell surely. Love the intermittent Welsh in the script (even though I'm English born and bred and can't speak Welsh) Not sure about last episode, as the love scene seemed a bit out of character, and what happened to the Dad at the end? What was the chief going to do to him? Definitely a lot of loose ends to tie up so perhaps they are leaving it open for a new series. No complaints about the rest of it though. The acting was superb. Perhaps a bit more on the background of the main characters wouldn't go amiss. Please come back soon.
