Movie Review: GENIUS (2016) AA+

This very special, excellent film, combines superb acting and writing . . . however, it's not for everyone. The professional critics as well as lay people panned it according to Rotten Tomatoes. In MY OPINION however, GENIUS is an exceptional drama about the complex friendship and  professional relationship between the world-renowned book editor Maxwell Perkins (who was the editor at Scribner's for  F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway) and the larger-than-life literary giant Thomas Wolfe.

It's about the unique personalities and characteristics of the well known literary greats of the 1930's, and (in general) the relationship between authors and their editors.

As an aside, during my college years I was forced to read Look Homeward Angel, written by Thomas Wolfe.  It was one of the worst experiences of my many, many years at school.
As I understand it, his style was is called "stream of conciseness". To say the least, it was difficult for me to understand the authors thoughts.
As defined in Wikipedia, stream of conciseness is "a literary style in which a character's thoughts, feelings, and reactions are depicted in a continuous flow uninterrupted by objective description or conventional dialogue. James Joyce, Virginia Woolf, and Marcel Proust are among its notable early exponents."

I recently read that today's literary critics don't agree on the Look Homeward Angel is as great as earlier critics believed. But that should not stop you from seeing this wonderful movie.
