Excellent, painful and uplifting movie about racial oppression of the blacks, in the deep south, in the mid-thirties. Excellent because it presents the universal story about the uglier side of relations between ethnic groups that have existed since the beginning of time . . . within the framework of the black's struggle for justice in the United States. A struggle that will (unfortunately) go on forever . . . or at least until the "races" are so intermixed that no one can call themselves white or black or Asian or anything else.
If you are looking to be discouraged about the state of political discourse in the US at the present time, I suggest you compare the debates in the movie to the "debates' by the Republican candidates for the office of President of the United States.
