This movie revolves about a women who's son is kidnapped and the police return a different child. Changeling usually means a child put in the place of another by fairies. (Folk tales).The movie tries to do too much and has some serious holes that make it somewhat unbelievable.
First it is a "social consciousness" movie that should have been produced in the late 1930's that deals with the injustices of the LA Police department and other governmental agencies. That would have been good enough. But, unfortunately, because the movie was designed as a showcase for Angeline Jolie, the movie also become a competing drama wrapped around the life and difficulties of the mother of the kidnapped boy.
The serious holes which makes the whole thing unreal is
1) the depiction of an 8 year old boy that lies to the world that he is really the kidnapped boy and
2) the conspiracy between many different elements of responsible public officials that swear that the returned boy is the real kidnapped child. I felt like I was in Russia in the 1930's or in Nazi Germany.
