Movie Review: AMERICAN HISTORY X (1998) B+

This is very violent a movie about people immersed in the American Nazi party.  The story deals with the effect on a family where hatred is part of the fabric of the daily life.  It deals with the results of this hatred but never explores the psychological reasons for their feeling . . which I assume is fear of people different from them themselves.

From Rotten Tomatoes: In a shocking opening scene,  a teen member of the family races to tell his older brother, neo-Nazi (Edward Norton), about the young blacks breaking into his car in front of the house, whereupon Derek gets his gun and with no forethought shoots the youths in their tracks. Tried and convicted, Derek is sent away for three years in prison, where he acquires a different outlook as he contrasts white-power prisoners with a black co-worker, and eventual pal.

No happy ending here.
