Foreign Movie: TAKE MY EYES (2006) AA

Wonderfully acted and SUPER realist movie about a non-assertive women, Pilar, who is being abused by her mentally unstable husband.  Excellent screenplay and editing that gives significant insight into the personalities of the main and supporting actors in 2 hours of filming.

Takes place in Toledo, Spain. Initially the abused women and her son,  go to live with her sister Ana. While supportive, Ana doesn't fully understand Pilar's situation and neither does her mother, who may have laid the groundwork for Pilar's non assertiveness.  The film also deals with the husband's problems which manifest itself in his desperate need for his wife.

If you at all interested in the social significance of spousal abuse and the relationships between people, this film is  a MUST SEE.  Available on NETFIX  streaming.  No DVD available from NETFLIX at this time.  May keep you up at night.

Take My Eyes won several awards at the San Sebastian Film Festival before making its U.S. premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in 2004.
