Boardwalk Empire has been running for four of years on HBO. It is a "edgy" (somewhat non-realist) crime drama which centers around the character of Nucky Thompson, a corrupt treasurer of Atlantic City who is involved in gambling and bootlegging in 1920. The show uses a large cast and a specially constructed boardwalk set to re-create the the Prohibition and Jazz Era.
In later episodes Nucky leaves his position as treasurer and become just one more hustler and mobster in the Prohibition Era. Costuming and cinematic recreation of the early twenties is excellent. We meet many unusual and creepy mobsters and hanger-oners. Not much of a plot, but plenty of mob killing and gore. If you are interested in that sort of stuff, it is a watchable series.
