ENEMY AT THE GATES (2001) AA

Enemy at the GatesThis is one of the most exciting and hair raising movies I've ever seen and belongs in my 100 BEST MOVIE LIST OF ALL TIME.

It has two elements that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The battle of Stalingrad and the dual between two snipers.  Should be seen with it's sister movie Stalingrad, produced by the Germans that vilifies the actions of Hitler during that battle.

Background: One of the turning points in World War II was the 1942-1943 battle of Stalingrad, where the Germans were defeated by Russians in one of the bloodiest combats in history. The film stars Jude Law as Vassili (a Russian) and marksman from the Urals who is transported to Stalingrad in 1942.  The other is the master German sniper, Major Koenig (Ed Harris). Koenig, who is determined to eliminate his opponent by any means necessary; meanwhile, Vassili has joined forces with a Russian political advisor to the KremlinDanilov who is impressed by Vassili's skills and raises his profile in the propaganda mill of the Soviet Union.

Koenig and Vassili begin to develop traps for each other, until fate inevitably must bring the two sharpshooters together. This large-scale production, also features Bob Hoskins as Nikita Krushchev who was the lead political person for the Russians at Stalingrad.
