GLORIA was Chile's official entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 86th Academy Awards.

 Rotten Tomatoes comments edited:
Gloria is about 55 years old . . . but still feels young. Though divorced and lonely, she makes the best of her situation by having a full time job, seeing her two grown children once in a while, and fills her nights seeking love at social dance clubs for single adults. Her fragile happiness changes the day she meets Rodolfo. At first she doesn't fully understand that he is an emotionally weak and helpless man that  caters to, and financially supports his two non-working grown up daughters and a dysfunctional ex-wife.  This may be one of the first movies I have seen (that I can remember) that describes the class of men who are controlled and fearful of there children and wives.  Many people call them p - - - y  whipped.   In the end Gloria gives the relationship her all, which leaves her vacillating between hope and despair -- until she uncovers a new strength . . . leaves the man and realizes that, in her golden years, she can shine brighter than ever.
