The story and the scenes are about young adults trying to find there way in post war, communist Russia, (before the massive changes that occurred in the late 1980's and 1990's). If nothing else, the film provides insight into the lives of the people . . . including the clothing they wore, the size of the women's bodies, where they worked, their drinking habits as well as the places they lived. Something we rarely saw in American movies.
I recommend this movie for film buffs only because the production and some of the story line looks like it was put together by rank amateurs. Amazingly this film won an Academy Award winner for Best Foreign Language Film.
I'm sure it was produced as a propaganda piece to show how the Soviets had advanced over the twenty year period between 1955 and 1975.
