Movie Review: PRISONERS (2013) AA

This film tells a conventional story about kidnapped children with the dramatic intensity of a 474 flying 200 feet right over your head.  We are in a middle class Pennsylvania suburb . . . families are visiting each other on Thanksgiving and two young girls disappear.

The realism, the acting, the fear, the rage, the pain . . . it's all there. The cops following wrong leads, the twists, brutality and resolution are dealt with by the director, cinematographer, music director, film editor in a magnificent manner.

A true work of art . . . THAT SHOULD BE NOT SHOWN TO UNDERAGE CHILDREN. It will take you two hours to come down to earth after you see this picture.

From Netflix: Haunting, suspenseful, and masterfully acted, Prisoners has an emotional complexity and a sense of dread that makes for absorbing (and disturbing) viewing.
